Carlo Nicita is a flutist, improviser, composer, and Professor of Jazz Flute at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan. He plays the flute, alto flute, bass flute, and piccolo, performing across jazz, classical, and folk traditions with a strong focus on experimentation. He has recorded more than 40 albums including 8 as leader and co-leader. He has performed in Italy and internationally at prominent festivals, theaters, and jazz clubs, including the North Sea Jazz Festival 2026, Umbria Jazz Festival 2021, Marseille Jazz Festival, the XI Biennial of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean in Athens (2003), the XI Klaipėda Jazz Festival in Lithuania (2004), Torino Jazz Festival, Trieste Jazz Festival, Clusone Jazz, Ah-Um Milano Jazz Festival, Blue Note Milan, Casa del Jazz in Rome, Jamboree Barcelona, NYU's Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò in NY, Bowery Poetry Club, ABC No Rio, Louis 649, and Sidewalk Cafe in New York, among many others. He has collaborated with distinguished national and international artists such as Maria Pia De Vito, Huw Warren, Trilok Gurtu, Enrico Rava, Giovanni Falzone, Yuri Goloubev, Salvatore Bonafede, Keith Tippett, Karl Berger, Ingrid Sertso, Adam Rudolph, Mike and Kate Westbrook, Ciro Battista, Ector Costita Bisignani, Moacir Luz, Yelena Eckemoff, Michael Leonhart, Daniel Fridman, Addison Frei, Rosario Di Rosa, Tito Mangialajo Rantzer, Eloisa Manera, Tino Tracanna, Mauro Negri, Ferdinando Faraò, Roberto Cecchetto, and Roberto Ottaviano. As a member of the Artchipel Orchestra directed by Ferdinando Faraò, he won Musica Jazz’s prestigious Top Jazz awards for "Best Band of the Year" in 2012, 2017, 2022, and 2025 (and secured second place in 2014), while also repeatedly receiving votes from prominent critics, historians, and musicologists—such as Claudio Sessa—in categories including "Album of the Year," "Best New Italian Talent," and "Musician of the Year."
